But then, I think the Universe / Multiverse has more sense than to let a fangirl anywhere in the same continuumn as her lust object. grin

There are a number of characters I can completely agree are Suvian - but I don't let that bother me. (Doublethink, much?)

Honor Harrington, for instance. I sometimes say that she overcomes Sueness by excessive application of the Rule of Awesome, but that's not really the case. After all, one of the contributors to Suvianity is being awesome.

And to top that off, I couldn't even begin to tell you why I like Sue!Honor but not, for instance, the protagonist of the Truth series by Dawn Cook - a series I put down sometime in the third book specifically because I didn't like how Suvian she was becoming.

So, to conclude, while you're probably right about the list being a bad idea and feelings getting hurt, it's by no means inevitable.

It's been fun times, and I'm sure you will be greatly missed. I'll certainly miss you.

As much as I loved the PPC and chatting and writing and reading, I'm afraid I'm leaving.

Some of it's due to lack of time and energy, but part of it's on how... well, mean the PPC can be when looked at without the MarySue hate. I kind of... I dunno, feel guilty? :/ Does that make sense? Feeling guilty for being nasty to a person's character because it happens to fit the type of character I hate?

Err... I can't unpublish the GoogleDoc so I would greatly appreciate it if the links were erased?

And... that's pretty much it.

I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about, Kit, no sir. Not me. I don't have any crazy cooking experiments that will turn the whole OFU on it's head planned, not at all. How could you even suggest such a thing?

I don't think THEY would have enough self restraint to not glomp. And I think the theory was that a fangirl created the multiverse's first (serious) Mary Sue.

He is fairly reconginsable. And I loved the sushi part.

No one can be blamed for the thoughts in their minds; it's actions that are important. I'm sure that, if somehow we ever did turn up in Narnia (or wherever), we'd have the self-restraint not to glomp. And if it turns out that we* are actually the perfect match for Caspian or whomever... well, Fate must want it that way, right? :P

(* er... I mean as in third person genderless singular, not actual plural, because threesomes are rather unlikely to work out in this context...)

Wish-fullfilment and escapism are always allowed; we just need to know when to keep our mouths shut - or our fingers still - about it.

I mean, I LIKE Mary Poppins, and isn't half the definition of a Sue the fact that almost everyone hates her? There are (fanfic) characters around that have almost every Sueish quality imaginable, but remain good characters because they are interesting and well-written.

And it's too easy to hurt feelings this way. (...Aside from Eragon, I think - we can all pretty much agree on THAT one.)
