Technically, he's a major canon character and a major Real World author, even if the canon is mercifully ignored by almost all of the Pit. I mean - would you conscript Tolkien to the PPC cause by travelling back in time and kidnapping him?
I don't mean to piss on your parade, in a manner of speaking in mixed metaphors, but it seems a little dubious. -

Since the Divine Comedy is technically RPF (Virgil, anyone?) and a self-insert, one could count it as fanfic and therefore make a case for recruiting the Divine Comedy version of Dante.
